Indiana basketball is in a new era, and for the first time in a long time, there’s a real reason for optimism — not because of hype, not because of star players, not because of a single recruiting win, but because of something deeper. Something older. Something that feels like the Indiana basketball many of us grew up with.
The Hopeful Hoosier exists because the program is finally showing signs of becoming a team worth believing in again — not just winning, but winning the right way: with effort, unselfishness, preparation, and identity.
Why I Started This
For years, it felt like Indiana basketball had drifted from what made it special. We had talent, we had transfers, we had highlights — but the DNA wasn’t there. The grit wasn’t there. The belief wasn’t there. And for many longtime fans, myself included, it was hard to connect with a team that didn’t seem to play with the passion and discipline that once defined the program.
But the arrival of Darian DeVries has changed something fundamental. From his first press conference on, he spoke about the things IU fans care about most:
Effort. Discipline. Accountability. Selflessness. Playing with purpose. Playing for each other. Playing the right way.
Those words landed with me. They reminded me of what Indiana basketball used to be — and what it could be again.
That’s why this site exists.

The Hopeful Hoosier is not a hype machine, a recruiting rumor depot, or a place for anonymous message-board outrage. There are plenty of those already.
This site takes a different approach — one rooted in the tradition, identity, and values IU fans have cherished for generations.

Why “Hopeful”?
